I had the privilege of photographing Anthony Fusaro Jr., Esq., Associate at Dhillon Law Group Inc. He shared some of his journey.
“I didn’t know what I wanted to do in college, so I took a sabbatical. My mom said, ‘You are going to Sicily to our relatives to spend a few months.’ It was a beach resort. I thought that would be great. All I knew about Sicily was it is a good vacation destination.
It ended up being different than I expected. I was there for two months. No one spoke English, I mean not even my relatives. There was a language barrier. The apartment didn’t get Wi-Fi, so it was books and the beach. Visually it seemed like paradise, but it was hard at first. I dealt with some isolation and loneliness.
Fortunately, after a while, I was introduced to some younger people who spoke my language and I started hanging out with them. That was eye-opening. I began to see Sicily through their eyes and ended up seeing how difficult it was for them. They were incredibly hard-working. They were obtaining impressive degrees in engineering and medicine but knew that they had to leave Sicily to work. It put everything in perspective.
I am originally from the San Francisco Bay Area. When I returned from Sicily, I realized that history was the major I wanted for my undergraduate degree. I love history. School became a breeze. Classes were actually fun. I enjoyed being a history major.
It seemed like a natural progression to go into law. I wanted to work using reading, writing and research. I went into law to make a difference and use my skills to help people. I am working in a firm that does help individuals and we also work with many corporations. But we do have a lot of individual plaintiffs we can help.
My advice—sounds like a cliché, but I would say, take your time. When I was in college for the first time, I felt directionless. I didn’t have a purpose. I probably changed my major 4 or 5 times. When I landed on history everything fell into place from there. Take your time. The right path will open if you keep following what you love to do.
This was my first professional photo. It was a great experience! Posing was unusual but the results were not what I expected. Alissa did a tremendous job bringing the qualities that she thought I was going for.
My normal involuntary expression is a big smile. Still, I needed a more serious look for a professional photo since they will be on LinkedIn and my business profile on our firm’s website. She did a great job capturing that side of me.
